Memorial Day ceremonies across Western Oregon & SW Washington

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Memorial Day weekend has arrived, and for many the weekend plans include a visit to a local cemetery to honor U.S. service men and women who have passed away.

Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day was first observed on May 30, 1868 as a day in which the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers would be decorated with flowers. In 1971, Memorial Day became a federal holiday observed on the last Monday in May.

Below is a list from the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs of Memorial Day events in Western Oregon and Southwest Washington, organized alphabetically by city:

ALBANY
