Honor Flight: Eldest on trip from Oregon is 99-year-old World War II veteran
PORTLAND, Ore. - Local veterans leave Friday morning on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., to see their memorials in the nation's capital.
The South Willamette Valley Honor Flight includes 44 veterans and their guardians.
The group checked in on Thursday in Portland and visited with one another.
The trip includes 11 veterans of World War II.
These veterans of the Greatest Generation are rapidly aging; the eldest on the trip is 99.
They are joined by 23 veterans of the Korean conflict and 10 Vietnam veterans.
Paulie Bokn of Eugene served in the Army during the Korean war.
What is he most looking forward to seeing?
"All the war memorials and things," he said. "I've talked to other people who've gone, but it's really quite a sight. So I'm anxious to see it and I'm sure I'll enjoy it a lot."
The group will gather for dinner Thursday and fly out Friday morning.
