Honor Flight veterans meet for luncheon
EUGENE, Ore. – More than two dozen veterans met for lunch in north Eugene Wednesday.
They were all previous participants in the South Willamette Valley Honor Flight program. They have all flown to Washington D.C. to visit veterans’ memorials and other historic sights.
The local Honor Flight hub raises the money for the trips, which are provided at no charge to the veterans.
So far, the South Willamette Valley Honor Flight program has taken 427 veterans to the capitol.
“The honor flight to me was one of the greatest things that could have ever happened to me. I went in April of '13 and it was one of the greatest things that I could even think about,” said Vernon Thompson, a World War II veteran.
As part of KVAL’s “Honoring Our Veterans” campaign, we’ll be traveling with the next Honor Flight in May, bringing you the pictures and stories of some of the local veterans on the trip.
