CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Newsource) - From the dress to the venue, many things change during the process of planning a wedding. But for Alison Ferrell, there was the thing she knew had to happen.

"When I first got engaged, I knew I wanted to include Uncle Bill in my wedding in a special way," she said.

But her uncle, 92-year-old Marine veteran Bill Eblen, had gotten sick with pneumonia and it wasn't clear if he could make the ceremony. But the illness didn't stop him. When nurses asked him what his goal was, he said he wanted to be his niece's "something blue" at her wedding. With that goal in mind, he worked hard on his recovery so he could attend.

Eblen was able to attend his niece's wedding, standing guard by the alter through the entire ceremony. It was the first time in years that he was able to dress in his blues.

Ferrel said she was able to have her perfect wedding with her something old, something new, something borrowed and a special person who will forever be her something blue.
