U of O freshman Troy Brown Jr. declares for NBA draft
EUGENE, Ore. -- From the moment he announced his commitment to the University of Oregon, expectations were high for Troy Brown Jr.
The 6’7” forward from Las Vegas didn't get to accomplish much his freshman season with the Ducks, but it was clear his athletic abilities were ready for the next level.
So, Tuesday afternoon on Twitter, Brown made it official - one season is all he'll have in Eugene as he's declaring for the NBA draft.
Brown averaged more than 11 points per game, led the team in rebounds and steals and was an All-Freshman Honorable Mention this season.
ESPN's mock draft has projected Brown as a first-round pick, going number 17 to the Indiana Pacers.
Oregon head coach Dana Altman spoke with the media Tuesday before Brown made his announcement.
He then released a statement: "Troy called me shortly after 1 p.m. today and informed me that he has decided to declare for the NBA draft. I told Troy we fully support his decision, and wish him the best. We really enjoyed working with Troy this year. He is a terrific young man and we look forward to the next chapter of his career in the NBA."
