EUGENE, Ore. - Sam Williams said he can't wait to feel the game day energy at Autzen Stadium in person.
"They're wild," he said. "They're crazy, Ducks fans."
The Oregon Duck football season kicks off Saturday against Nicholls State, and fans are flocking to Eugene for the season opener.
Williams is with a group of Duck fans from Canada who were in Eugene on Friday buying team logo gear to get ready for their first trip to Autzen.
The boys said the stadium and the fans have a bit of a reputation.
Andrew Liu said Duck fans make the stadium a little rough for opposing teams.
"I heard it's like one of the hardest stadiums to play at," Liu said.
While Williams and Liu line up for their first Duck game at Autzen, veteran fan Frank Gehring has seen his fair share of games.
Gehring said he hasn't missed a home opener since the 1970s.
"There's nowhere else I'd rather be," he said.
Frank has a bit of a pre-game ritual.
"I am shopping for all the gear I can find," he said. "I do it every year right before the first game. Shop as much as you can, get as much as you can."
Gehring isn't alone in his Ducks gear shopping spree.
Katie Conway, Marketing Team Manager of the Duck Store, said there's been a steady stream of shoppers gearing up for the first game.
"It happens every year," she said. "I think the first game of the season is always really fun, and so much anticipation for the coming year."
Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
