EUGENE, Ore. - Crosstown rivals No. 12 Sheldon and No. 23 South Eugene met Tuesday at South Eugene High School.

In the first quarter, the game was close with Sheldon leading South Eugene by a few points, 18-15.

But as the second quarter progressed, Sheldon began gaining a strong lead. At halftime, the Irish led the Axemen by 12 points.

"I thought the game could have been a little bit better," said sophomore South forward Henry Lininger. "I thought we came out a little flat, especially in the third quarter."

South Eugene fought hard throughout the second half but could not keep up with the Irish offense. The Irish won the game 58-42.

With Sheldon and South Eugene both ranked, fans on both sides were excited for the matchup.

"It was a good game, good rival matchup," Sheldon student Kirt Cornelius said. "But Sheldon won in the end."
