Oregon 3A State Basketball Tournaments kick off at Marshfield, North Bend high schools
COOS BAY, Ore. -- Wednesday is the first day of March, which means Oregon's Class 3A State Basketball Tournament is back in town.
Marshfield and North Bend high schools will host the OSAA 3A girls and boys tournaments beginning Thursday.
Qualifying teams travel from all around the state to take part in the annual event.
Organizers at Marshfield High began prepping for the tournament early Wednesday.
"What's neat about it is these local communities embrace the event,” says OSAA Assistant Executive Director Brad Garrett. “Having community members involved and invested in the event is outstanding and certainly this is one of those locations where it occurs."
Communities from all over Oregon are flocking to the area for the big tournament, and local businesses say they are seeing a boost.
"We're booked up full the second, third and fourth (of March),” says the general manager of the Super 8 in Coos Bay, Anna Uwujiye. “We have no rooms available unless somebody cancels and that does happen because, you know, people lose in the tournaments which is sad, but somebody has to not be a winner."
The action kicks off Thursday runs through Saturday.
