#ProDucks: Kiko Alonso named NFL defensive rookie of the year

EUGENE, Ore. - A former Duck who came back from a knee injury and off-season run-ins with the law to go on and win defensive MVP honors at the 2012 Rose Bowl has been named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America.

Kiko Alonso started all 16 games for the Buffalo Bills in his rookie season, registering 159 tackles, 4 interceptions and a fumble recovery.

The middle linebacker missed the 2010 season for Oregon due to a knee injury. He was arrested twice in Eugene during the 2010 and 2011 off-seasons.

He returned to play in 2011, going on to win defensive MVP honors at the 2012 Rose Bowl.

After a successful senior season in 2012, the Bills picked Alonso in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft.
