ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Joseph Lane Middle School students will receive a visit from former NFL player Joey Harrington on Friday, May 12, who is joining them for a field day and to deliver $6,000 to support health and wellness efforts.

He will be on the Roseburg middle school's campus from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Jo Lane is one of five winning schools in a nationwide contest co-sponsored by Dannon Danimals, a children’s yogurt brand, and Fuel Up to Play 60, an in-school wellness program.

Each winning school is receiving $6,000 from Dannon and a visit from a former NFL player. The visits will take the form of field days consisting of fun physical activities and drills from all students, along with nutrition information and Dannon samples.

Harrington, a Portland native, played college football at the University of Oregon before being drafted third overall in 2002 by the Detroit Lions. During his NFL career, he passed for over 14,000 yards and tallied 79 touchdowns over the course of six seasons.
