Emeralds to play game postponed by smoke; ticket sales benefit Hurricane Harvey relief
EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene Emeralds and Hillsboro Hops will meet Wednesday night in a playoff game postponed due to hazardous air quality from wildfire smoke.
Game 1 of the first round playoff series was scheduled for Tuesday.
“After numerous discussions with league officials and the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency, we determined that this was the best course of action, as weather reports expected things to improve on Wednesday,” said Allan Benavides, General Manager for the Emeralds. “Safety is always our first priority, and we are pleased that the air quality improved to allow us to host tonight’s Game 1 at PK Park.”
The teams meet at 7:05 p.m. at PK Park in Eugene.
Then they'll meet again Thursday and Friday in Games 2 and 3 of the series, scheduled for Hillsboro.
Fans can still buy tickets at the box office for as little as $1, with half of all ticket proceeds going to Hurricane Harvey relief.
