CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) Arizona State found an answer to what was missing just in time.
The Sun Devils made smart decisions and finished at the basket in the closing minutes to hold off Oregon State on Thursday night for a 72-62 win.
Arizona State (14-2, 3-0 Pac-12) saw a 15-point second-half lead shrink to four with just more than five minutes to go.
"We were unfocused at a point in time and they came back," said Sun Devils guard Jahii Carson, who had a game-high 20 points. "We came back and played the way we're supposed to play . ball screens, multiple-pass possessions and finding the open guy. When we play like that we get easy baskets."
Carrick Felix added 18 points and 14 rebounds in recording his fifth double-double of the season for the Sun Devils, who won their first conference road game of the season.
Devon Collier had 18 points, eight rebounds for Oregon State (10-5, 0-2).
A 9-2 run early in the second half helped Arizona State push a six-point halftime lead to 15. Jonathan Gilling's basket finished the run, giving the Sun Devils a 52-37 lead with 14:18 left.
The Beavers answered, scoring seven in a row to cut the deficit to eight.
Oregon State kept chipping away, with Ahmad Starks hitting a short jumper with 6:58 remaining to cap a 7-0 run to put the score at 55-51.
Oregon State closed within four once more, at 57-53, on two Collier free throws.
But Arizona State came back with layups by Carson and Felix then a dunk by Jordan Bachynski to go up 65-55 with 1:42 left. Oregon State got no closer than eight from that point.
"Basketball by nature is a game of runs. We went up by 15 and before we could blink it was down to four," Sun Devils head coach Herb Sendek said. "Our guys showed a good measure of resiliency, bending but not breaking."
Bachynski finished with 10 points and nine rebounds, helping the Sun Devils to a 49-35 edge on the boards.
Oregon State got 10 points from Starks and eight from Roberto Nelson on a combined 5 of 18 shooting. The two senior guards average a combined 29 points.
Beavers coach Craig Robinson didn't have an answer for the missing offense.
"If I knew that I could fix it," Robinson said. "I think they still need to get used to being the guys."
Collier scored six points early, helping Oregon State to a 13-9 lead.
Arizona State later took its first lead at 17-15 on a basket by Ruslan Pateev.
The Beavers then went on a 13-4 run, including six more from Collier, going ahead 28-21 on two free throws by Starks.
But the Sun Devils ended the half on a 10-0 run to lead 36-30 behind Carson's 11 points.
It was a poor shooting half for both teams, with Arizona State making 14 of 35 from the field and Oregon State 12 of 33.
Oregon State played without sophomore forward Eric Moreland. Robinson announced that Moreland and Victor Robbins have been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules.
Moreland started Oregon State's first 14 games, averaging 10.8 points and 11.1 rebounds. Robbins, a guard/forward, has played a total of 63 minutes in nine games this season.
The Beavers are already playing without senior center Angus Brandt, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Oregon State's fourth game.
