Beaver Football: Agnew transfers to Salukis
CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois head football coach Dale Lennon announced today that Saluki Football has added running back Malcolm Agnew, a transfer from Oregon State.
Agnew will be a junior for the 2013 season. In two seasons with the Beavers, he ran for 692 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. He began his career in 2011 by running for an incredible 223 yards and three touchdowns in his first collegiate game. As a true freshman, Agnew was Oregon State's leading rusher despite being limited to six games of action due to a hamstring injury. He appeared in all 13 games for Oregon State in 2012.
At De Smet Jesuit High School in St. Louis, Agnew started at running back and cornerback and was ranked the 45th best running back in the country by Rivals.com. He was a two-time All-Metro Catholic Conference running back and named to the All-State team as a cornerback. He rushed for 904 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior and 505 yards and seven touchdowns in an injury-shortened senior season. In addition, he was a sprinter on the track team and was among the fastest in the state in the 100 and 200 meters.
Agnew is the brother of current SIU fullback Ray Agnew.
