Section of Hauser Beach to close temporarily May 15-17

REEDSPORT, Ore. -- A section of Hauser Beach, OHV Route #1341, will be closed near the beach May 15-17 while contractors repair high water damage and improve drainage to help divert water off the trail, Willamette & Siuslaw National Forest officials report.

Heavy equipment will be in the area and will need full access to the damaged section of route.

Detours to and from the beach can be made using Saunders OHV Route #1355, which is located to the north by way of the 430 Trail (Route #1381).

Riders coming from Hauser need to stay on the 430 Route northbound in order to reach Saunders, officials say. Riders staying at Riley Ranch County Park can ride north from the Riley Ranch Trail/430 Route intersection.

Signs will be posted to indicate the detour.

This section of route is low in elevation and prone to seasonal high water. Heavy rainfall in past seasons, paired with the challenge of maintaining off-road trails in loose sand has left this portion unable to be traveled by most off-road vehicles. This is the first phase of a longer-term initiative to improve drainage systems on OHV beach-connecting routes, creating more sustainable trails and protecting the environment surrounding the trails in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

For more information and updates, contact the Oregon Dunes Visitor Center at 541-271-3611.

Road closures and delays are regularly posted under the Alerts and Notices section of the Siuslaw National Forest website at https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/siuslaw/alerts-notices.
