EUGENE, Ore. - Forecasters say there's potential for heavy snow in the Cascades this weekend.
Snow could start at elevations about 6,000 feet on Friday night.
By Saturday afternoon, the snow level is forecast to drop to 3,500 feet - well below Willamette Pass at 5,100 feet and Santiam Pass at 4,817 feet.
"There is the potential for 10 to 20 inches of new snow in the Cascades Saturday through Sunday," the National Weather Service said.
Throw in winds of 25 to 45 mph with 60 mph gusts, and driving could get tricky.
"This combination of winds and snow will create near white out conditions at times," forecasters said. "People planning outdoor activities or travel into or over the Cascades this weekend should prepare for winter-like conditions."
