ExplOregon: Hobbit Beach

The trailhead is pretty hard to find along Hwy 101 at roughly milepost 177. You'll see a pull-off parking area. Then you cross the highway to where signs direct you to the Hobbit Trail. (SBG)

FLORENCE, Ore. - Have you ever stopped and gazed at the Heceta Head lighthouse from Highway 101?

If so: Have you ever wondered what is on the other side of Heceta Head?

There's a beach.

The Hobbit Beach.

The trailhead is pretty hard to find along Hwy 101 at roughly milepost 177. You'll see a pull-off parking area. Then you cross the highway to where signs direct you to the Hobbit Trail.

You walk through tall dense trees and rhododendrons with a couple roots coming up in the path (just be cautious when hiking).

It's incredibly beautiful and about a 1/2 mile hike to the beach.
