Teen stabbed in front of Federal Way High School

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- A teen was wounded in a stabbing outside Federal Way High School Tuesday morning.

The school resource officer witnessed the stabbing around 11 a.m. in front of the school, and was able to capture the suspect as he tried to run, according to Cmdr. Steve Arbuthnot with Federal Way police.

The victim, a 16 year old male, is in stable condition at Harborview Medical Center. The suspect, a 17 year old male, is being booked into juvenile detention.

A witness tells KOMO News she saw a fight between the two evolve into a stabbing.

Both the suspect and victim are students, the Federal Way School District says.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of a stab wound to the stomach.

The school was put in a brief lockdown during the ordeal but has since been lifted.
