Ellensburg schools closed due to wildfire smoke
ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Schools in Ellensburg have cancelled class due to unhealthy air caused by nearby wildfires.
Leaders with the Ellensburg School District (ESD) said all classes, sports practices and school-related activities are cancelled for all schools from Sept. 6 through 11 due to wildfires such as the Jolly Mountain fire in Cle Elum.
According to an ESD news release, Health Department tests determined indoor air quality unhealthy for students and teachers.
District leaders said all windows and doors in school buildings will be closed to help purify indoor air.
ESD asks that no one comes to school as it is important that all windows and doors remain closed at all times.
The Health Department will reassess conditions Sunday.
