90s video time capsule found in Fred Meyer floor demo camera
Back in the early 1990s, someone pressed record on a floor demo video camera in a Fred Meyer electronics section. The tape survived, providing us in 2017 with an incredible look back in time.
The video is a continuous 26 minute, fly-on-the-wall look at the people and their glorious 90s hair and clothes.
The video was posted on YouTube back in June, and then people obsessed over every detail of it on the Portland subreddit. The nostalgia filled comment thread about this video on Reddit is as entertaining read, all by itself.
The video and Reddit thread got some media attention, receiving write ups in Willamette Week and the AV Club.
Picking up on clues in the video, people online determined this was recorded in 1992
The original poster, Kellie Rogers, says the location of the Fred Meyer store is in Washington state.
She explains how she found the video this way on her YouTube post:
"My dad bought a video camera in the 90's to record me and my sibling. My dad bought the floor model and it came with a demo tape. My dad reused the tape, recording over most of it but here is the part he didn't. It is like a 90's time capsule! Some great fashion tips here."
