TACOMA, Wash. -- A shot was fired Monday morning in a boys' bathroom at Oakland High School in Tacoma.

Police have detained two students identified from surveillance video as being in the bathroom. Five others had been detained but have been released, police said. The two detained students could face gun charges.

No one was hurt in the shooting. The school, at 3319 S. Adams St., was on lockdown.

But Loretta Cool, police spokeswoman, said all the students were safe.

"There is no concern about the safety of students," she said.

The round went through a wall and into the bathroom floor. The round ended up in a lunchroom below the upper-floor bathroom.

Kira Clark, 14, said a bullet came through the ceiling, hit a pipe and landed near a vending machine. She said she was 2 or 3 feet away.

"It scared the living crap out of me," she said. She said she ran out of the school but returned. Kira said she didn't know who fired the shot.

"It could be any kid," she said.

Cool said police believe the gun is in a vehicle. On Monday afternoon, police had two vehicles towed away from the school's parking lot.

Students were released from class and the lockdown called off about three hours after the gunshot was fired. Outside the school, parents and students reunited after what many call a nerve-wracking day.

“It was scary. It put a lot of things into perspective,” said Demarr Jones, a sophomore.

“I’m just really happy everything is safe and no one got hurt today. But, this is becoming a big problem out here,” said Demarr's father Richard Jones.

“It’s school. We come here to get an education, not to be violent,” said student Aziyha Brown.

The incident comes after Tacoma police arrested a 12-year-old boy on Friday and a 15-year-old boy on Sunday for making threats against their schools.

This is a breaking news story. We will have updates later.
