SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Families were out in full force for Saturday's "MEGGA Hunt" at Lively Park in Springfield.
This year marked the 53rd run of the large scale Easter egg hunt put on by the parks department. The Willamalane-sponsored event brought thousands of basket-toting hunters out in the gorgeous Spring weather.
"Today is the absolute, most beautiful day we've had since last Summer, and people are having a great time," said Willamalane Public Affairs Director Mike Moskovitz. "There's moms, dads, kids, grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles - all here and having a good time watching the kids hunt for eggs."
Moskovitz said last year's egg hunt brought out about 6,000 people, and organizers anticipated more were drawn out this Saturday because of the great weather.
With over 17,000 prize eggs hidden around Lively Park, the volunteers with Willamalane Parks and Recreation District ensured that everyone left the event a winner.
