EUGENE, Ore. - While many schools on Wednesday declared late starts or even closures for Thursday, the three largest local school districts - Eugene, Springfield and Bethel - said they would evaluate the situation on Thursday morning before making any decisions.
"Calling school closures the night before, as has been done this week, is an extremely rare occurrence," said Pat McGillivray with the Bethel School District. "If school is cancelled an announcement will be made before 6 a.m."
Eugene 4J said staff would assess the roads and announce any closure or delay by 6:30 a.m.
Springfield schools expect to announce a decision between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.
The Corvallis School District announced Wednesday that it would remain closed Thursday, as did Fern Ridge, Marcola, Mapleton and several other districts. | Current School Closures and Delays
Last Friday, more than 8 inches of snow fell in Eugene and other southern Willamette Valley communities. Local school districts have not re-opened since, although the University of Oregon, Lane Community College and Oregon State have tried to stick with finals week. Some finals were postponed; students should check with their school for updates.
