'When we arrived it had already gone through the roof'

EUGENE, Ore. -- Firefighters responded to a house fire on Delta Street in Eugene Friday afternoon .

Officials said the west side of the house was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived at around 2:35 p.m. Friday.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, Eugene Fire Battalion Chief Matthew Steinberg said.

"When we arrived it had already gone through the roof," Chief Steinberg said. "Crews made an aggressive, defensive attack on (the west) side, after which they were able to get interior and put the fire out."

The most damaged parts of the home were the deck and living room.
