'We wouldn’t be there without the people who love our beer'
EUGENE, Ore. - It started with a pint and continued with another 10 years of local brewing.
Eugene’s own Ninkasi Brewing Company turns 10 this summer and the brewery is celebrating over the weekend with a party and limited edition beer.
Ten years ago, Ninkasi Brewing Company was an idea dreamed up by co-founders Jamie Floyd and Nikos Ridge as they shared a point.
“We wouldn’t be there without the people who love our beer and just the great community of craft beer lovers in general,” said Ali Aasum from Ninkasi Brewing.
The patio was hopping for the 10th anniversary celebration. But what drove much of the enthusiasm was a special dark beer. Leave it to Ninkasi to create a special imperial blended ale, just for its 10th anniversary. They call this new creation the N10.
“It's an imperial blended ale, so it's five different beers blended together,” Aasum said.
The five beers include imperial stout, barrel-aged imperial stout, two imperial IPAs, and barley wine.
“They're all five beers that represent significant times in our history, all blended into one delicious beer,” Aasum said.
The strong beer measures at 10 percent alcohol by volume.
For the event, Ninkasi invited Davey Wendt of Davey’s Chocolates to create a special treat to pair with the N10.
“I like the challenge of trying to capture the essence of their beer in what I do, chocolate,” Wendt said.
As for the next 10 years, Ninkasi says it sees more beer in the future.
“We're happy that people keep supporting independent craft beer and we're just happy to be a part of that,” Aasum said.
Ninkasi’s true 10-year anniversary was in June, but because of the Olympic trials, they delayed their celebration until August.
Both the N10 beer and the chocolates are limited edition, so once they run out, they’re gone for good.
