Vandal breaks Nike store windows with baseball bat

PORTLAND, Ore. - Someone smashed the windows at a Nike store in Northeast Portland early Wednesday morning.

It happened at the Nike Factory Store located at 2650 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Four of the store's large glass windows were shattered.

A man named James, who didn't want to give his last name, told KATU he heard the glass breaking at around 4 a.m. and saw a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt running away from the store. He called 911 and found an aluminum baseball bat on the ground near the broken windows.

"I thought, 'wait a second, I played Little League. that sounded like an aluminum bat,'" he said.

James said he lives near the store.

"I see somebody from the house haulin' off down the street," he said.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call Portland police.

"Find a better way to get your point out instead of destroying property," said James.

KATU's Melanie Wingo contributed to this story.
