Vacant home catches fire in Winston, spreads to surrounding vegetation
WINSTON, Ore. -- At 8:18 Monday morning, firefighters from Winston-Dillard Fire Department and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 264 NW Main Street in Winston.
The crews arrived to find a single family dwelling fully involved with fire and heavy black smoke.
Officials say the fire had also spread to the vegetation surrounding the structure and also some trees that were nearby.
Douglas Forrest Protection Association was requested to assist with extinguishing the fire that had spread to the vegetation and trees.
The fire was declared under control at 8:47 a.m. and crews remained on the scene for cleanup and to cool hot spots located in the debris.
Officials say the home has been vacant for some time and there were reports of some transient activity taking place.
There were no injuries and the fire is currently under investigation.
WDFD responded with 1 fire engine. DCFD2 responded with 4 fire engines and 1 command unit. DFPA responded with 1 fire engine.
Winston Police Department and Winston Public Works also assisted at the scene.
