U.S. flag flown upsidedown, below state flag at public school

EUGENE, Ore. - The flag of the United States of America wound up upsidedown and below the Oregon state flag on the pole outside Kelly Middle School on Monday.

A passerby reported the problem to the school and then called KVAL News.

The American flag had been righted and placed atop the flag pole, above the state flag, by the time a news crew arrived on scene.

A school district official acknolwedged a mistake was made and thanked the passerby for alerting the school to the error.

Flag etiquette calls for the U.S. flag to be displayed above all other flags. The flag is only put upsidedown as a distress signal.
