Update: Car runs red light, hits van south of Junction City
JUNCTION, Ore. - One person died and two others were injured when a sports car ran through a stop light and hit a van Friday morning at the intersection of Highway 36 and Highway 99 south of Junction City, state police officials said.
The crash happened around 6:40 a.m. Friday when James Richmond and his wife, Barbara (both 55, of Coos Bay) were headed eastbound on Hwy 36 in a red Acura Integra. Crash investigators said that James Richmond went through a red light at the intersection and hit a black van that was driving south on Highway 99.
The driver of the black van, Brian D. Cole, 43, of Sandy, Oregon, had a green light, state police officials said.
James Richmond died at the hospital. His wife, Barbara Richmond, suffered serious injured and is being treated at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.
Cole was treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said.
