Two OSU students die in crash into Yaquina River
EDDYVILLE, Ore. -- Two Oregon State University students after their car rolled off of Highway 20 and into the Yaquina River on Sunday morning, state police said.
Officials said a 2000 Chevy Impala was heading east on the highway when the driver lost control in a sharp corner about six miles west of Eddyville and the car went off the road.
State police said the car rolled down an embankment and stopped on its top in the river. Witnesses were unable to get to the people inside the car.
Abigail Patricia Emerson, 21, of Roseburg, and 24-year-old Christopher Kazanski of Madison, Wisconsin were both unconscious when paramedics arrived on scene. They were pronounced dead by medical staff after being taken to Good Samaritan Regional in Corvallis.
The Oregon Dept. of Transportation closed the highway to one lane while law enforcement investigated the crash.
