'They got pinned down while Southern troops were shooting at them'

EUGENE, Ore. -- John Rikhoff inherited a piece of family history that turns 150 years old this week.

"It was my great grandfather's, Frank Stoltz. 150 years ago - this week... really - that he won the Congressional Medal of Honor for action at Vicksburg," said Rickhoff, holding up a frame containing two weathered documents matted around a small brass medal.

Although tarnished, the small piece of metal represents one of the highest awards that a military member can receive. In honor of Memorial Day, Rickhoff shared the story of how his great-grandfather was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
