EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eugene-based 970th Transportation Detachment gathered in the Eugene Hilton's confrence center Friday night for a proper send-off before making a tour in Afghanistan.
Made up of 21 U.S. Army Reserve soldiers, the 970th is slated to deploy by Monday morning.
The group met with their families Friday night at the Eugene Hilton's conference center for a dinner party with their wives, friends and regional officers.
The 21 soldiers will first go to Fort Hood, Texas for more training before shipping off to Afghanistan. Members of the group said they will mostly be doing transportation logistics.
