'The coldest thing I've ever experienced in my life'

EUGENE, Ore. -- The annual Polar Plunge to beneft the Special Olympics was held at Maurie Jacobs Park on Saturday morning.

Groups of people - many of them wearing costumes - ran into the river for a quick dip in the water.

"I really enjoyed it. It was kind of cold, but I really liked being here," said Sherman Alldridge, who participates in the Special Olympics.

The Eugene Polar Plunge is one of five throughout Oregon.

Last year, the Polar Plunge fundraiser raised over $450,000.

Despite the cold temperatures, that didn't stray people from running into the water.

"He said go, and we just ran in, and I was like 'Wow, it's not as cold' and then you get in up to here and it was the coldest thing I've ever experienced in my life," said participant Alicia Skinner.
