Tailgating at Autzen and Reser: 'This is family... and just a lot of fun!'

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The long wait for college football is finally over, and fans of both Oregon and Oregon State celebrated the season's return at their home stadiums.

Thousands of friends, family alumni and fans gathered together as one in the parking lots surrounding Reser and Autzen to root for their favorite team, in spite of the slight delays on the highways.

The Beavers opened their 2013 season against Eastern Washington, and Beaver nation was out in full force.

"I grew up in Corvallis and have probably been tailgating for 30 years," said Oregon State fan Scott Hildebrand. "This is family... and just a lot of fun!"

Even though the Beavers lost Saturday's game to the Eastern Washington Eagles 49-46, Oregon State fans said they will keep the tailgating tradition strong through the season.

Oregon kicked off its 2013 campaign at Autzen Stadium Saturday, and Duck fans celebrated the return of football season.

Duck-fan Roman Baszmiak said he's been counting down the days until Aug. 31.

"My wife especially has been going through withdrawls all summer," said Baszmiak. "It's a perfect day for a game and it's certainly not going to rain in Autzen Stadium today."
