KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - A driver lost control of his Chevy Tahoe while trying to pass a Toyota Prius on an icy stretch of Highway 97, causing both cars to slide into an irrigation canal with the SUV on top of the hybrid sedan.
The driver of the Prius - Robert Burton, 56, of Chelan, Wash. - and his passengers Bree Burton, 20, and her 2-month-old son were taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Their car came to rest mostly submerged in the canal after breaking through the ice.
The driver of the Tahoe - 70-year-old Howard Kingman of Sisters - was not injured. Oregon State Police cited Kingman for careless driving.
The crash happened just after 1 p.m. Wednesday on Hwy 97, north of Klamath Falls.
