SUV driver killed in head-on crash with ambulance carrying patient
EUGENE, Ore. - The driver of an SUV died when the rig crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Eugene Fire Department ambulance carrying a patient Wednesday.
Patricia L. Morgan, 57, of Junction City died at the scene. Oregon State Police said her SUV crossed the centerline in a curve on Clear Lake Road just before noon and collided head-on with a Eugene Fire & EMS ambulance.
Lane Rural Fire Chief Terry Ney said two paramedics were in the ambulance at the time of the crash. One was driving while the other attended to a patient in the back.
The ambulance was on a non-emergency transport with no lights or siren activated, police said. The two paramedics and patient in the ambulance were transported by another ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with non-life threatening injuries.
The paramedics were treated and released from the hospital, police said.
The Lane County Sheriff's Office and Lane Rural Fire responded to the crash. Oregon State Police will investigate, Ney said.
