Suspect in bank robbery accused in golf club beating
EUGENE, Ore. - A man accused of robbing a bank in Eugene also faces accusations he beat an Oakridge resident with a golf club Saturday.
The Oakridge Police department sent an officer to Eugene late Monday to arrest Jeremie Wesley Skordahl, 33, on charges of assault, burglary, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon stemming from the November 10 attack.
Police in Eugene took Skordahl into custody after neighbors in the Harlow Road area called police at 4 p.m. Monday to report a man seen running through backyards.
Officers found Skordahl covered in mud - and noticed that he resembled the suspect who robbed the US Bank branch in the Albertsons on Coburg Road just before noon Monday.
After comparing Skordahl to the bank surveillance photos, the officers took Skordahl into custody on charges of second degree robbery.
Eugene Police said the incident both highlights the importance of citizens notifying the police when they notice something suspicious and illustrates the benefit of having a functional, high-quality video security system at banks.
