Strike to begin Wednesday for Lane County employees
EUGENE, Ore. - More than 600 Lane County employees are ready to strike, with a Strike kick-off event starting on Tuesday evening.
Employees with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal employees (AFSCME) are planning to walk out after several months of labor contract negotiations.
The employees warned the county that they would go on strike if an agreement about wages was not reached.
The county started preparing for the possibility of a strike in early October.
Lane County says they're considering a three-year contract that represents an $8.8 million increase in compensation for the workers.
That meeting will be held on Tuesday, but the AFSCME, community members and local labor unions still plan to kick off their strike starting at 5:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Eugene.
