Springfield Police: Man in serious condition after bike pinned beneath car
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Just after 9 p.m. Monday, the Springfield Police Department and Eugene-Springfield Fire Department responded to the 1600 block of South ‘F’ Street in Springfield regarding a vehicle versus bicyclist crash.
Police report the the involved vehicle, driven by 43-year-old Jerediah Lockhart of Eugene, was eastbound on South ‘F’ Street as Lockhart had just departed an area business at the conclusion of his work shift.
Lockhart reported to police that he did not see the victim in the road; however, he said he felt his vehicle start to pull to the side and operate oddly. According to the report, he stopped his vehicle to find the victim, a 42-year-old man and his bicycle, pinned beneath the Nissan Crossover he was driving.
The victim was conscious and speaking to first responders upon arrival.
He was extricated from under the vehicle by fire department personnel and transported to River Bend Hospital in Springfield. He was listed in serious but stable condition.
The accident is being investigated by members of the Springfield Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
