South Eugene restaurant to close

EUGENE, Ore. - A restaurant and bar is closing its doors forever Sunday.

Agate Alley Laboratory is going to call it quits after three years in business along Sout Willamette Street.

The Lab had offered different and experimental cuisine, but the owner said he's spread out too thin and wants to concentrate on his other bistros in town - and his newborn son.

"We've been open 3 1/2 years, and it's been a good run," said Dug Beaird. "But some priorities have changed, and we've just decided to focus on other endeavors right now."

Beaird said 15 people will lose their jobs but said he will absorb as many of the staff as he can at the Agate Alley Bistro and Chachi's Burrito stand near the University of Oregon campus.
