VENETA, Ore. - An injured bear took shelter in a tree along Wolf Creek Road on Tuesday afternoon.
Sheri Parker spotted the bear from her car.
"We stopped to look at him and realized he was injured," Parker told a photojournalist at the scene. "There was some guy that was going to shoot him, so we thought we'd hang out and wait for the ranger to come."
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife later said there was no evidence the bear was injured. ODFW staff suspect the bear went up the tree for safety, frightened by humans.
They left the bear alone for a while, and when biologists returned, the bear was gone.
