Soldier from South Coast killed in combat

GARDINER, Ore. -- A soldier from Gardiner was killed Nov. 9 in combat, according to the Department of Defense.

Capt. James D. Nehl, 37, was killed in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, from small arms fire while on patrol during combat operations.

According to the DOD, he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.
