Smoke plume visible from forest fire outside Lowell

LOWELL, Ore. - A plume of smoke is visible from the rapidly growing Jones Fire along Little Fall Creek outside Lowell, the Willamette National Forest said.

"As of now, the fire is moving north and east up into the woods and away from any communities, rural properties and recreation sites," the Forest Service said in a statement. "Road 18, which goes up Fall Creek remains open, as do all campsites along that drainage."

However, all roads and trails that lead north up the hill from Fall Creek are closed, the forest service said.

The fire is burning near Forest Road 1817, 9 miles east of Fall Creek reservoir and 1 mile north of Clark Butte. The public should avoid the area.
