Six people hurt in head-on crash along Highway 26

SEASIDE, Ore. -- Six people were hurt in a head-on crash along Highway 26 Sunday morning after a car drifted across the center line about 8 miles east of Highway 101.

Officials said Samuel Kitto, 19 of Astoria, was driving his Subaru Legacy west on Hwy 26 when at around 9:45 am he drifted across the center line and hit a Toyota Corolla head-on.

The driver of the Corolla, Karen Anderson, 27 of Eugene, tried to swerve out of the way but the cars hit in the eastbound fog lane.

State troopers said Anderson was taken to a hospital in Astoria with minor injuries. Her 56-year-old passenger Audrey Ziebelman was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.

Kitto and his three passengers were all taken to Portland-area hospitals with serious injuries. The passengers were 19-year-olds Jacob Engbretson and Dylan Rabell, and a 16-year-old girl.

Anderson and Ziebelman were both wearing seat belts and their airbags deployed in the crash. Crash investigators are still finding out if Kitto and his passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
