Sheriff: Young girls hide from intruders in basement crawlspace
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Two young girls hid inside a basement crawlspace when they heard intruders break through the front door of their Spokane home Wednesday evening, according to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the sisters -- ages 9 and 13 -- heard someone knocking on the front door of their house in the 200 block of East Elcliff Road around 5 p.m. and looked outside to see two men and a car in their driveway. One of the men was reportedly looking in the window.
The sisters ran downstairs and hid in a crawlspace, something their parents had taught them to do in just such a situation, and the 13-year-old called 911. While in the crawlspace, the girls could reportedly hear the men walking around upstairs.
A deputy arrived to find the front door damaged from being forced in but no sign of the men. It was unclear if anything was taken from the home.
