Sheriff: Suspects used excavator to tear roof off dozer at logging site

NORTH BEND, Ore. - Two men did $15,000 in damage to logging equipment at a site north of North Bend, the Coos County Sheriff's Office said.

The men were on the logging site possibly drinking and shooting a gun when they apparently decided to take an excavator and a bulldozer for a spin, investigators said.

They drove the excavator into a tree and used it to rip the roof off of the dozer, deputies said. They also bent the blade on the dozer.

Deputies responded Sunday morning after the logging operator reported chasing three men away form the logging site off Marine Way.

A K-9 unit located two men. A third man remains at large.

Deputies arrested Dennis Inglis, 48, of North Bend and Nicholas Libby, 31, of Aloha on charges of unauthorized entry and use of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief.

Both men were book into the county jail on $60,000 bail.

Last month, a joyride at a logging site in Washington state resulted in the deaths of 2 people.
