Sheriff: Oakland man behind bars on numerous child sex crimes
OAKLAND, Ore. -- An Oakland man is behind bars, after the Oregon Department of Justice and the Douglas County Sheriff's office charged him with child sex crimes.
The Sheriff's office says that at around 7:00 am on Tuesday, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Detectives Division assisted the Oregon Department of Justice - Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, in serving a search warrant at 239 Oakwood Drive in Oakland.
Lt. Kurt Strickland from the Sheriff's office says investigators were "searching for computers and other electronic devices containing images of children depicted in sexually explicit conduct."
Strickland says that during the search, several items of evidence were seized from the residence.
Leland Dale Benson, 67, of Oakland, was arrested at the residence and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on five counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse I, and five counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse II.
