BROOKINGS, Ore. -- Rescue crews brought a man and his dog up a 200 foot embankment after he fell on Friday evening.
Just after 7:00 pm, the Curry County Sheriff's office received a report from residents of the Rainbow Rock Condominiums saying a man had fallen over the clif.
just north of Brookings on Highway 101, reporting that there was a male subject that had fallen over a 200' cliff at that location. The Curry County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team and the Brookings Fire Department were called to the scene just north of Brookings off of Highway 101
Authorities say Bruce Whetsel, 57, of Brookings, was safely brought to the top of the embankment by the use of a rope system, a stokes basket and manpower.
Whetsel was then transported to Curry General Hospital by Cal Ore Life Flight Ambulance.
Officials say Whetsel had his Golden Retriever with him. The dog was not injured and was taken by Pennies for Pooches.
Authorities say that Whetsel had not fallen from the top of the embankment as reported, but had tried to climb up from the bottom after walking along the beach, slipped and injured himself.
