Sheriff IDs victims in shooting that left 1 dead, 1 injured

Two people are now in custody. One of them faces a charge of murder and multiple counts of attempted murder.

BLODGETT, Ore. - The sheriff identified the victims in a shooting that left one man dead and a woman injured Monday night.

The scene of the shooting at 35111 Tum Tum Road in Blodgett was "active for a short time," the Benton County Sheriff's Office said, "as the shooter(s) location was unknown."

Two people are now in custody. One of them faces a charge of murder and multiple counts of attempted murder.

The Benton County Sheriff on Wednesday identified Wesley Joe Newell, 68, died as the result of a homicide. Newell lived on Norton Creek Road in Blodgett.

The sheriff said Cassandra J. Wilhelm, 46, a resident of Summit Highway in Blodgett, was injured in the shooting.

"She is recovering from the shooting, but is expected to survive," the sheriff's office said.
