UMPQUA, Ore. -- A man drowned in the Umpqua River on Sunday, after witnesses say he was swimming near the Yellow Creek boat ramp.
Douglas County Sheriff's deputies were called to a reported drowning just before 4:00 pm.
Authorities say Alicar Romeo Lopez-Herrera, 34, of Van Nuys, California, was swimming when witnesses saw him go under the water and not come back up.
The Sheriff's Office Dive Team, Fire District 2 Swiftwater Rescue and Kellogg Fire Department all responded.
Rescue divers located the man and recovered the body about 50 feet downstream from the boat ramp, submerged in an eddy pool.
The name of the man is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
