SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- A woman is behind bars, after authorities say she bilked an elderly woman for more than $17,000.
The Sheriff's office says they received a tip from a family friend of a 98-year-old woman that her caregiver may have been taking advantage of her.
That caregiver was identified by officials as Netta Mackey, 52, of Sutherlin.
Deputies say that an investigation revealed Mackey had been the woman's caregiver for six months, and that Mackey had forged and cashed checks worth a total of $17,600 from the elderly woman's bank account.
The Sheriff's office said they arrested Mackey in the 100 block of Plat M Road in Sutherlin on Tuesday, and she was lodged in the Douglas County Jail on a total of 42 charges.
Officials say those charges were first degree aggravated theft, aggravated identity theft, first degree forgery, first degree criminal mistreatment and computer crimes.
